When an accident or illness keeps you from working for an extended period, it is important to have a continuing source of income. That is why Smiths Group offers you Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage designed to replace a percentage of your income if you are unable to work.
Note: You may enroll in this coverage during your first 30 days of employment without providing evidence of insurability (EOI). After this initial enrollment opportunity, you will need to provide EOI to enroll.
LTD provides you with a benefit if you are unable to work because of a prolonged illness or accidental injury.
Here is how the plan insured by Prudential works:
- You must file a LTD claim with Prudential if your short-term disability is not administered by Prudential.
- If your claim is approved, the plan begins paying benefits after you are disabled (as defined in the SPD) beyond the elimination period of four months.
- You’ll receive a monthly benefit equal to 50% (up to a maximum of $15,000 per month) or 60% (up to a maximum of $18,500 per month) of your base pay, depending on the benefit you choose and pay for through payroll deductions.
- Certain disability benefits you receive, such as Social Security and Workers’ Compensation, will offset your monthly benefit.
